Orange Crush

It was brought to my attention by someone that my first couple of posts have been fairly negative. It seems some people in this world believe that all Philadelphia sports fans are whiners and breed failure. I can see where someone can have this opinion of us die hards. What they fail to realize is that most Philly fans are well educated when it comes to their sports and feel as though they could better run the teams than the people in charge.

With that said I have to give the Flyers organization their due. In this past off season Paul Holmgren went out and signed the best players in free agency he possibly could. By getting Briere and Jason Smith, he has upgraded this team to championship caliber. At the end of last year he acquired Martin Biron, a goalie who finally has what it takes to lead this team to the promise land. Although the Flyers are still lacking some consistency they have started off this season very well. Currently they are tied for first with the Rangers and Devils with less games played then both teams.

If the other major teams in Philly could learn anything from the Flyers its that by acquiring talent you can create a winning team. I know it is early in the hockey season but the dramatic improvement over last year is hard not to notice. Our young guys (Carter, Tolpeko, Richards) are also stepping up the way we thought they would last year. Not only is this team stacked with talent but they should be able to be very good for a decent amount of years to come. I, for one, am extremely excited about the possibilites this team brings to our city, they could finally end the championship drought and bring a parade to Broad Street!

Just my humble opinion...Philly Sports Dude
