The United States is at war. A woman may actually run for President. If she doesn’t an African American will. The real estate market is crashing and gas prices are near an all time high. So why not spend the time and money of our United States Government to come out with a 409 page report regarding steroid use in baseball?
Last week the world of baseball and all of sports forth that matter was rocked by the Mitchell Report, a 409 page report put for by U.S. Senator George J. Mitchell on the issue of steroid use in baseball. 409 pages….When I heard that a 409 page report was issued by a U.S. Senator identifying 90 players current and past as using “Performance Enhancing Drugs” I thought “Wow, I guess these players are screwed!”
As it turns out, no player is screwed. The 409 page report has no effect on any player legally. The 409 page report has no bearing on the current players playing status. Although Bud Selig took a “firm” stance stating that players will be dealt with on a case by case basis, it’s obvious to me that no player will suffer any damage other than a tainted reputation.
It’s obvious that Barry Bonds pissed somebody off. He has been singled out of this steroid mess prior to this 409 page report and mass amounts of time, effort, and money has been spent and will be spent by our government trying to prosecute Bonds for perjury and obstruction of justice. So it begs the question…..who did Roger Clemens piss off? It seems that he is the one singled out in the Mitchell report. The only thing about Clemens being singled out is that there will be no legal consequences as a result of this report.
Which brings me to my point. “The Mitchell Report: Masturbation without Ejaculation” What’s the point? From a legal standpoint no person named in the Mitchell Report will face any criminal consequences and no player can take legal action against the Mitchell report. There is just enough evidence to prevent a libel suit or a slander suit to be brought but not enough evidence to bring legal or disciplinary action against any player named in the report.
In a world where real life issues exist that affect all U.S. citizens it is sad that time, money, and effort are spent by our U.S. Government to create a 409 page report that is pointless. It is also sad that the media creates a buzz around such a pointless report. If you don’t understand my point try something. Lay down before you go to bed tonight and start masturbating. Before you finish just stop.
